It’s been a good week and a few days of me playing SCII now. I think I’m pretty much settled on using the Protoss. I’ve played around with Terran, but haven’t really used the Zerg. My friend uses them pretty much. Maybe one day…
I think I’m getting a bit quicker. I’ve started to incorporate hotkeys and control groups. I was on the Blizzard SC2 forums, and this guy posted his videos on how to do control groups and hotkeys, which helped immensely. You can see the thread here. He has beginner SC2 youtube vids HERE. It’s helped me to be more efficient. I had been playing on Hard before incorporating these two things, but dropped down to Medium so I could get used to it AND to using the Grid set of hotkeys. It’s usually on standard, but Grid puts it all on the QWERTY side of the keyboard, and each button corresponds with the menu. So, that’s pretty nice. The funny thing was that the attack button now switches from A to T, but it’s okay.
I also saw a thread about the ‘Big 5’ which are these SC2 gameplay principles. I used to warp in a Forge, and build cannons for defense in the beginning, but have adapted my game after reading the Big 5. It’s made me be more proactive when my base is getting attacked. With getting used to the Grid layout, I was taking my time a bit, though…had to restart a game or two. :D
I’m still fairly slow to react, but having the control groups (my sentries in their OWN group, haha) helps a lot. Warp Gates are pretty sweet too, once i realized it was instant. Now it’s like working with mineral and gas management…and transitioning. Oh and I need to scout. I think I will start playing the 50 practice matches later in the week, because I kind of know what the computer will do. I’ll just keep playing it on Hard until I feel up to actually playing other people, or at least until I’m pretty comfortable with the new layout and stuff. Oh, and have a decent strategy. Or something, but it’s all about learning, isn’t it.
I sort of favor going for 2gate at the beginning, and going up gradually. I had 4 gates up in the last game. Then I usually go Robo, and the Stargate usually goes up last. I haven’t incorporated any sort of Templars into my strategy (or what there is of it) yet. I love Sentries though.
LOL, I realize a lot of people will be like O_O. SC2’s been usurping my time, but it’s hella fun. I’m posting my stuff out here, add me if you want. We can be noobs playing the computer on Medium! Or Hard. Hell, let’s try Insane and see how long we last. :D
(kokok, I tried adding you, but it’s not working. :( )
